Connect Apple clients
calternal supports Apple Calendar, Apple Reminders, and Finder. Use an App Password for each client. It is separate from your passkey.
Set up Apple Calendar and Reminders
Section titled “Set up Apple Calendar and Reminders”Create an App Password
Section titled “Create an App Password”- Sign in to calternal.
- Open Settings → Apps → App Passwords.
- Select New app password. Enter a name that helps you recognize this Installation.
- Select Calendar apps · CalDAV.
- Select Create password. Copy the App Password now. calternal shows it once.
The panel shows the server URL and your account ID. Apple calls the account ID User Name. The account ID does not change when you rename your User.
Install the signed profile
Section titled “Install the signed profile”The signed configuration profile sets up CalDAV without manual typing. Create the App Password first, then install the profile before its link expires.
- iPhone or iPad: Open iPhone & iPad in the ready panel. Scan the QR code with Camera. Open the profile link. In Settings, select Profile Downloaded, then select Install.
- Mac: Open Mac in the ready panel. Select Download profile for Mac. Open
calternal.mobileconfig. In System Settings, review the profile, then select Install.
The iPhone and iPad profile link works once and expires after 10 minutes. After you download the profile, install it within 8 minutes.
Set up CalDAV by hand
Section titled “Set up CalDAV by hand”Use the values in the App Password ready panel:
- Server: the full server URL shown in calternal. It ends in
/dav/. - User Name: your account ID, shown in calternal.
- Password: the App Password. Do not use your passkey.
On iPhone or iPad:
- Open Settings → Apps → Calendar → Calendar Accounts → Add Account → Other → Add CalDAV Account.
- Enter the Server, User Name, and Password values.
- Select Next.
On Mac:
- Open Calendar → Settings → Accounts.
- Select + → Other CalDAV Account.
- Select Manual. Enter the Server, User Name, and Password values.
What syncs
Section titled “What syncs”- Calendar Events sync to Apple Calendar.
- Tasks sync to Apple Reminders.
- The Journal syncs Log entries to Apple Calendar.
- Per-area calendars are coming. They will appear after issue #356 merges.
Connect Finder with WebDAV
Section titled “Connect Finder with WebDAV”- Open Settings → Apps → App Passwords.
- Create an App Password with the Files / WebDAV preset. Choose only the access that you need.
- Copy the WebDAV Files URL shown in calternal.
- In Finder, select Go → Connect to Server.
- Enter the WebDAV Files URL. When Finder asks, use your account ID as the name and the App Password as the password.
Troubleshoot
Section titled “Troubleshoot”- If Calendar shows CalDAV Password Required, check the Server URL and account ID. In Settings → Apps → App Passwords, check that the App Password still exists and has CalDAV access. If you cannot find the App Password, create a new one and remove the old one.
- If Reminders do not sync, check that the calternal list is enabled in Apple Reminders.
- If Finder cannot connect, check that the App Password has WebDAV access and that you used the WebDAV Files URL from calternal.
